How to Add a Product Variant [Step-by-Step guide]

When performing catalog maintenance tasks, you may need to manually add new product variants to your system.


This guide covers how to add a product variant and define its initial details in techOMS.

 

 
WarningIf techOMS is not set as your Account's Master Product Source, we recommend making changes directly in your Master Product Channel instead of using this procedure.

Otherwise, be aware that changes made here will:
  • Propagate to your non-master channels but will
  • Not sync back to your designated Master Product Channel.

Proceed with caution.
 
 

 

 
NoteMake sure that you are operating at the right Account beforehand.

 
 

 

Step 1Click Products from the left menu under the Inventory section.

 

Step 2Click the Variants tab to see the product variant list.

 

Step 3Press Create.

 

 

Step 4Complete the fields accordingly in the creation dialog:
  • Product: Base product of the variant (type and select a filtered option).
  • Name: Product variant full name.
  • SKU: Variant SKU code.
  • Non Inventory Item: If checked, techOMS will not track the product/variants in inventory, but will send order lines with the variants to the Fulfillment Channel to decide how to handle them (typically used for merchandising, marketing materials, gifts, etc.).

 

Step 5Press Save to apply the changes.

 

 

The product variant is now created and available in your catalog. To configure additional attributes, you must edit the newly created variant as detailed in How to Edit a Product Variant or Details [Step-by-Step guide].
